I while back I read about a program that could convert map files (either .rmf, .map, or .bsp, I can't remember) into .mdl files.
Does anyone know where to get it / have it and would like to give it to me?

Thanks

3DSMax.  No really!

What you do is open Hammer, load up your map.
Click FILE then "Export to DXF".
You now have a format you can load up in 3DSMax, since 3DSMax will read DXF files.

All you have to do from there is use 3DSMax to export that geometry to the SMD format used for raw HL models.

What hammer version? Me wants to try that!

In the mean while you could use Deep Exploration Right Hemisphere - Visual Product Communication and Collaboration.
Texture will be missed though.

I believe Hammer 3.4 or 4 will do that.

It's really useful if you want to make a prop to fit a specific part of your map, because you can scale the props to fit the scene =D

The only downside is that Hammer doesn't export UV maps at all, so you will need to re-UV everything after exporting it.

Incedentally I believe Quake Army Knife and Radiant export to multiple formats.  I forget which ones though :X

Thanks! I think I have 3DSmax floating round somewhere too.
But I thought there was also a program that you just put in the .map or .rmf file (and the .wad) and it put out a .mdl ..... maybe I'm just going crazy!

I guess you're looking for Propper - Propper - Valve Developer Community .

Oh, sounds interesting and useful. Does it work with gldsrc?  confused

That was probably it. I had thought it was for goldsrc but evidently not.
Thanks for tracking that down!

It would still be very easy to port the Source models it outputs to HL1.

BTW, thanks for pointing that tool out!  That will be great for my map work in Source Cheesy
